Jung Ga Eun, a prominent actress and model, is embroiled in a nasty court fight after learning her husband — who was previously described as a wealthy tycoon living in a fancy apartment — duped her during their short-lived marriage.
Jung gained fame in 2001 after winning the title Miss Korea Gyeongnam and went on to appear in hit television dramas such as Master's Sun and Hello and Francesca before marrying Mr. A in January 2016.
Soon after they got married, the couple was blessed with a baby girl. However, the love quickly turned sour, and they both divorced after 11 months.
Mr. A initially appeared to be genuinely wealthy; he was portrayed as a successful businessman with substantial financial resources, owning luxury cars and displaying a strong ambition for business ventures.
He was described at the time as a chaebol, which is a type of large family-owned business conglomerate in South Korea. But a few years into the marriage came alarming gossip about his finances.
Sources close to Jung later claimed that the fraud was hidden from her by Mr. A as they married. After they allegedly split up, he embezzled more than 13.2 billion won (around $11 million) from numerous victims, using Jung's bank accounts unbeknownst to her.
After these issues came to light, Jung Ga-Eun sued her ex-husband for fraud. She says he kept asking for money after their divorce while leaving other things like child rations and paying incurred to her.
A reporter familiar with the case quoted her as saying: "There was a huge contrast between the way Mr. A had made himself appear wealthy and the way their married life turned out to be.
"There appeared to be a lot of mismatch between expectations and the reality on the ground."
Even though Jung has to face a lot of hardship, she continues pursuing her career.
She appeared in the play Boeing Boeing not too long ago and had been active on YouTube with her channel Jung Ga-eun is playing, which shed light on her life and her career.
