The struggles South Korean actress Song Hye Kyo went through in the midst of filming her latest movie, The Priests 2: Dark Nuns, came to light on December 16 at an event in attendance of reporters.
Starring Jeon Yeo Been, Lee Jin Wook, and Moon Woo Jin, the mystical sequel to 'The Priests,' a 2015 box office hit, will be in theaters on January 24, 2025.
In "Dark Nuns," Song plays a nun named Junia who, with Michaela (Jeon Yeo Been), performs unholy rituals to rescue a child possessed by a dark, evil spirit. The film explores themes of faith and fighting against dark forces.
An exorcism scene is an aesthetic beauty of a sort, but it is also very hard to shoot, and Song pointed this out during a press conference at Fairmont Plaza in Sydney.
"The most challenging part was remembering the prayers. I often practiced while washing dishes and taking showers," she said, as quoted by Laodang News.
"Filming scenes where I fighting an evil spirit left me physically tense and caused frequent nightmares. It was a demanding role both physically and mentally."
Jeon Yeo Been, meanwhile, said she focused less on dialogue and more on the way the characters reacted to one another, such as Michaela, to bring the role to life.
"I try to express my character's spirit with just my eyes and body language," she said.
Expressing admiration for her co-star, Jeon added, I've watched Song Hye Kyo's movies since I was in school."
Song also shared her excitement about collaborating with Jeon. "I'm so excited to hear that she was cast. It was everything I didn't know to expect, having never been on a set before," she said.
The film promises to provide a very horrific plot story along with a beautiful exploration of the faith of its characters and their battle of inner souls.
