After being missing in action for a while, Chinese actress Zhao Lusi recently updated her health status through a letter she posted on Weibo.
When Zhao was seen in public using a wheelchair, many citizens became worried about her health. In reaction, a friend disclosed that someone in Zhao's firm had purportedly attacked her.
Zhao wrote in her letter appreciating her support from the profession and opened up about her mental health issues.
She wrote," This is my first and last response to everything that has happened recently. I sincerely apologize for taking up public attention. Before all this, I never allowed my illness to affect my work or those around me. I also acknowledge my own shortcomings."
Zhao, who had a similar experience in the past, opened up about suffering abuse at the hands of a teacher in her childhood.

This made her really think about how it affected her confidence and how much she would speak out about it.
She wrote: "When I was a child, I was often labeled as "useless" and a "pretty face." During after-school tutoring, a teacher once hit me in their dorm.
I believed it was justified because I wasn't performing well academically and didn't dare to speak up, thinking, "I must be the problem."
The scars of being bullied after failing a contractual audition took time to heal, Zhao continued, feeling like she was to blame for her situation and not speaking out about how she felt.
Even worse, she said, the individual who abused her wanted a large sum to end the contract she had with him.
"Even then, she spread endless slander and rumors about me, both inside and outside the industry. Countless people reached out to gossip after hearing these stories. Every incident deepened my pain, and the harm hasn't stopped."
Zhao, in an impactful mental health assertion, noted that depression is an actual illness and that it cannot simply be resolved with positive thoughts.
She said, "Feeling depressed can be an emotion, but depression as an illness is a medical condition. It cannot be resolved by simply 'thinking positively' or 'talking it out.':
In the end, she thanked her supporters and wished them good cheer for the new year. Zhao said, "It's because of love that I've found the strength to live again."
