Former idol-turned-actor Choi Jung Won has been officially named as the cause of a marital breakdown involving Woman A, a married woman he was accused of seducing, the Seoul Family Court ruled in January 2025.
Insight reported that the judicial decision comes after a long-fought legal battle that started earlier in the year with the rumors surrounding him.
Man B (husband of Woman A) accused Choi of having extramarital relations with his wife, which apparently led to the breakdown of their marriage.
At the time, Choi disputed the 'homewrecker' claims, calling them a "malicious attempt" to shake him down for some cash as a former member of the first-generation idol group UN.
In January 2023, Choi released a public statement, saying: "The person making the accusations sent me countless threats and verbal assaults and blackmailed me for money."
He added, "The manifestation of the truth shall be proven in a court of law, and I will be pursuing legal action for the damages and losses I sustained due to this situation."
However, in the divorce lawsuit filed by Man B, the court ruled that Woman A's relationship with Choi was one of the major causes of the couple's divorce.
On December 4, 2024, the court ruled that woman A would pay man B KRW 30 million (around us$20,600) in damages.
The court ruling read: 'While Women A was married to Man B, she deceived him by stating that she was going out to meet a friend and met with Choi Jung Won for brunch in May 2022.
On the 27th of the same month, Woman A said that she would attend a company get-together and instead met Choi at Hangang Park.
The pair drank wine together and held hands and linked arms. Woman A later visited Choi's home and remained there.
The court had also previously been shown that Woman A had instead left her young son at a gaming arcade to go out on dates with Choi, telling her husband that she was taking their child out.
The ruling may be reflected in a different suit filed by Man B against Choi, seeking damages over the affair.
Although Woman A has contested the decision, the ongoing public intrigue surrounding the case continues to send Twitter and news reports into a frenzy, full of new revelations.
At 43, Choi is best known as a singer in the early 2000s and a more recent television actor. His agency has not made a statement about the ruling.
