Fans and the media alike raised eyebrows as the man who skipped his only daughter's wedding was the film director Hong Sang Soo, who is famous for having an extramarital relationship with actress Kim Min Hee.
In a video posted on January 20 by the YouTube channel "Entertainment President Lee Jin-ho," it is alleged that Hong did not attend the wedding of his daughter (her name has not been made public), whom he has with his estranged wife.
Lee said, as quoted by World Daily, "Hong Sang-soo, who had only one daughter, married 2~3 years ago, but Hong Sang-soo shockingly did not attend her wedding. This was not only a pass on the event, but also a well reported no congratulations gift," leaving fans shocked.
A friend of Hong's wife said, "Isn't Hong Sang-soo going too far? Yet, the wife allegedly replied in a subdued voice, "That's just how he is."
Lee Jin-ho said, "While she appeared to be calm on the outside, we cannot fathom how she felt when her husband, the father of her daughter, didn't attend the wedding of their daughter or even send a congratulatory gift. That must have hurt both mother and daughter heavily."
And the drama doesn't end there — sources also state that Hong was absent from his mother-in-law's funeral, who paid for his daughter's studies abroad.
Lee also reiterated, "It is completely untrue that Hong Sang-soo inherited ₩120 billion (around $100 million) and that his daughter was cut off from education funding after Hong's affair with Kim Min-hee".
According to Lee, her friends said he was notoriously tight-fisted and that few believed he had ever paid for his daughter to attend school. Her motherly grandmother is said to have funded her education fees.
On a separate note, Kim Min Hee is believed to be six months pregnant after falling pregnant, conceived naturally last summer, and is expected to give birth in spring.
Although their relationship has faced some public criticism, Dispatch reported that Hong has been there with Kim while she got check-ups during her pregnancy.
Fans and netizens react to the personal choices of the famous director, and the family drama seems to be unfolding day by day.
