Lee Si-young, an actress, is under fire after she posted a video from her recent vacation to the United States, which some netizens claim invades a bystander's privacy and evidences questionable parenting skills.

On August 6, Lee posted a photo on her social media platform showing a dinner in a picturesque restaurant on Long Island Beach.

She also posted a video that had footage of her young son, friends, and a view of the sunset over the ocean. Lee captioned it:

"A truly beautiful restaurant at Long Island Beach. If you go to the U.S., you must visit. I'll definitely come back next year. Jiyoon didn't want to leave the U.S., but we promised to stay longer next time."

The clip immediately generated criticism upon detection by viewers that the face of a foreign woman was prominently displayed in the clip, being visible more than Lee or her son. An effort to blur or hide the identity of the woman was not made.

Comments on the internet were worried about the matter:

"The foreign lady looks uncomfortable... I can't even focus on the scenery."

"It's shocking that no attempt was made to blur her face."

"The woman's face is more prominent than Lee's in the frame."

While some believed that the woman had possibly been within the group or had provided consent, others cited a lack of cultural sensitivity, particularly in terms of filming abroad in public areas.

The row was exacerbated by insults directed at Lee's son for his actions during the meal. In the clip, the boy is shown circulating around the restaurant, dancing, taking a parasol, and going up to other people's tables—actions that some internet users described as rowdy.

Stronger negative reactions followed:

"Your child might be cute to you, but this is poor table manners."

"He should be seated while eating. Please educate your child."

"This is exactly the type of child I hope to avoid at restaurants."

This follows closely after Lee announced that she was pregnant for a second time, something she did on her own via in vitro fertilization (IVF) after having divorced.

She had already disclosed her choice came down to the fact that her embryo storage was about to run out and the significance her child meant to her.

"Even in a hard marriage, my child was the only thing that brought me joy and hope. Now I'm thankful for this new life and living my happiest days."

As the backlash continues to grow, Lee addressed the criticism with a public statement:

"I will sincerely accept any criticism or advice moving forward, with a humble heart."

Whether the scandal would impact her public perception is not clear, but the video has triggered heated debate on parenting on the streets, privacy rights, and cultural practices while abroad.
