Apple, Android Gain Market Share; Apple Reports $10B In App Sales;

Reports say that Apple's App store has reeled in $1 billion in 2013 December, bringing the total for the year to a whopping $10 billion. That's not surprising for Apple, which unveiled new releases, the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c at the end of 2013.

In December, about 3 million app downloads were recorded by Apple users. The App store is where iPhone, iPad and iPod users can download 1 million apps found in the store.

But there is still some competition left for rival OS Android.

According to analyst at Gatner, Annette Zimmerman, "There is no doubt that there is a volume-versus-value equation, with Android users purchasing lower-cost devices compared to Apple users," the Globe Reports say that Apple's App store has reeled in $1 billion in 2013 December, bringing the total for the year to a whopping $10 billion. Gartner also said that tablet PCs will climb 47 percent this year, taking a punch at traditional PCs.

Gartner research director Ranjit Atwal was quoted as saying, "Users continue to move away from the traditional PC as it becomes more of a shared-content creation tool, while the greater flexibility of tablets, hybrids and lighter notebooks address users' increasingly different usage demands."

Yet another threat to Microsoft's PC is Intel's release of an Android and Windows based computer. Intel said in its 2014 Keynote address that its chip would run both the OSs. These two-in-one series is expected to grow in popularity.

In total, 1.1 billion Android devices will be sold in 2014, while a smaller number of Microsoft machines will be sold. However, Apple will be making will increase the most by percent.
