French President Francois Hollande is defending allegations of an affair with a younger woman. His wife, French First Lady Valerie Trierweiler was reportedly hospitalized for depression and fatigue after she found that the President was having an affair with movie actress Julie Gayet for the last two years.
Reports say the she is also troubled about her future - whether or not she will be homeless and uncared for after Hollande gets together with his mistress. Hollande and Gayet are said to be inseparably in “love,” reports the Mirror.
Trierweiler has been discharged from the hospital after a week’s treatment and was allowed to stay at the presidential retreat used by President Nicolas Sarkozy in Versailles. It was first a prime ministerial rest home, but Sarkozy managed to get hold of it during his presidency.
The First Lady said she was shocked that her husband would double cross her for the 41-year old actress. She has now adjusted to the news after hospitalization, and is more worried about being homeless. She shares an apartment with Hollande in Paris, which belongs to him. A rift in their marriage would mean she would have to leave the premises without a place to go.
More certainly, she would no longer be ‘first lady’ and would be asked to leave the Elysee Palace Office. The ‘First Lady’ title and trappings would go to the newcomer.
Friends say that Trierweiler is in a cycle between rage and depression.
A deputy editor at the magazine Paris Match, where Trierweiler works, Catherine Schwab stated, “Hollande didn’t use his visit on Thursday to Trierweiler hospital bedside to dump her, but he did tell his devastated partner that he needs more time.”
She added, “They agreed that she could wait in La Lanterne. But wait for what? Therein lies the problem. Imagine the anxiety.”
A insider close to the story said, These things don’t always happen at the right time and to the right people, but that’s life.”
