Google glass release date, price are the subject of much curiosity after the smart glasses were introduced as a concept in 2012.

Stories about Google glass have been emerging in news reports as the gadget goes mainstream; a judge recently ruled that the Google glass worn by a woman was not interfering with her line of vision while driving. She was pulled over by California highway police officer.

In another story, a man was interrogated after he was allegedly recording movies at a theatre using Google glass.

With so much mystery revolving around the the Google glass, it will take some time before we can ascertain what's doable on Google glass and what's not.

With so many skeptics out there about what was initially called Google Goggles, Google has made their point about the device:

"We think technology should work for you-to be there when you need it and get out of your way when you don't." said Google in a report by pc advisor, adding, "a group of us from Google[x] started Project Glass to build this kind of technology, one that helps you explore and share your world, putting you back in the moment."

The average Google glass does not have a lens and offers a heads up display using batteries. It would be comparable to having a smartphone in the same field of vision - a tad bit above your head. Now, Google has partnered with ophthalmology experts to offer prescription lenses onto Google glass.

This offers a practical edge to the device since prescription lenses may be worn all the time by users, with Google glass sitting on the side for more tech-based computing and interaction. Analysts say that it is the next step in wearables from the smartwatch, already released by Samsung, called the Galaxy Gear with a second version pending release.

Despite the stiff price of $1500 for developers to test and explore Google glass, consumers are expected to get a lower price.

"The reason is simple. The market potential for smart glass is huge. It will be used in trucks, cars and has a greater impact on related industries such as glass- and coatings-makers," a spokesman for Samsung Electronics told reporters.

.

He added, "It will be interesting to see which companies get better stakes in the race for smart glasses. Players definitely want to enjoy a 'first-mover' advantage in this new and highly lucrative market."

Samsung is ready to launch its Galaxy Gear 2 and Galaxy Glass is expected to couple with a smartphone to communicate alerts on translucent lenses; it will enable phone calls, and allow users to use it as a music device. The device will be more or less used as the Galaxy Gear smartwatch.

Samsung and Google announced a global patent cross-license agreement and Samsung has registered a Galaxy Glass patent in Korea, according to the Korean Intellectual Property Office, cites PC Advisor.

"The new smart glass to be introduced by Samsung is a new concept of wearable device that can lead to an exciting culture of communication. The smart glass will present our aim to lead the new market with proven capability. Wearable devices can't generate profits immediately. Steady releases of devices are showing our firm commitment as a leader in new markets," added the official.

Google Glass is reportedly in the final stages of development is due for release to the public in the second half of 2014.
