As the second Captain America film; Captain America: The Winter Soldier draws near, Walt Disney Company CEO and Chairman Bob Iger announced to investors and analysts that the events in Captain America: The Winter Soldier will trigger critical events that will lead to the plot of next year's Avengers sequel; Avengers: Age of Ultron and a crossover episode of Agents of SHIELD will be based on the second Cap film.
The CEO praised Captain America:The Winter Soldier for making a huge impression, saying,
"I've really been impressed with the early buzz that we're seeing for the Marvel films. Captain America 2 is just huge and it takes the Captain America story to incredible new levels. Now, we're already in the marketplace with some marketing, but it's been relatively limited. We had a pre-game for instance in the Super Bowl. And yet the interest in Captain America films, which comes out April 4 here in the states, seems much louder than it would be for what I would call a non-branded film."
As for ABC's Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., no plot specifics were given for the future crossover episode. The ABC series previously expanded the story from last year's Thor: The Dark World in "The Well" that aired two weeks after the films debut. While there is no confirmation yet on when this crossover will air, don't be surprised if it happens in mid-April, just after the movie debuts in theaters.
