Shia LaBeouf caused a stir by wearing a paper bag to the Nymphomaniac premiere at the Berlin Film Festival. The troubled actor wore a black suit with a black bow tie to the red carpet, but hid his face inside a brown paper bag with the words "I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE" written on it. The statement is one he has been posting on his Twitter account over and over since January 13.
The incident happened just after the Transformers star walked out of a press conference for the movie. He left in a huff after answering a question about acting out the sex scenes in the film. His answer was a line by soccer player Eric Cantona in 1995: "When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown to the sea." It was said after Cantona, who was playing for Manchester United, kicked someone in the crowd during a game. LaBeouf also added a "Thank you very much," before heading out.
Uma Thurman and Christian Slater - LaBeouf's co-stars in the film - simply laughed the stunt off. The two even joked about the script containing a lot of sardines. Later, LaBeouf made the effort to dress up for the red carpet, only to wear the paper bag on his head.
The stunt is the latest in a series of increasingly strange behavior from the actor. The last incident involved him lunging at three young men who took a photo of him at the lobby of the Ritz-Carlton. Luckily, LaBeouf's acquaintances were able to intervene and no further trouble ensued.
The 27-year-old's troubles began when he was found out to have plagiarized the work of graphic novelist Daniel Clowes for his short film called Howard Cantour.com, which was made for last year's Cannes Film Festival. He apologized afterwards with plagiarized statements, which caused a new media frenzy that led him to tweet a slew of angry rants. He eventually made the announcement on Twitter that he was retiring from public life. There has been no word from him on what it meant, and the star is still showing up to his press appearances as of the moment.
