Valentino has released a statement apologizing for using Amy Adams to promote their handbag in the context of Philip Seymour Hoffman's funeral. This comes after the fashion brand released a promotional email last week showing two photos of Amy Adams carrying a Valentino bag. The press release said, "We are pleased to announce Amy Adams carrying the Valentino Garavany Rockstud Duble bag from the Spring/Summer 2014 collection on Feb. 6 in New York."

The photographs in question however were taken while the actress was attending her costar Philip Seymour Hoffman's funeral. They showed Adams all in black, looking somber with her head down.

The actress has worked with Hoffman in several movies - The Master from 2012, Doubt from 2008, and Charlie Wilson's War in 2007. Hoffman was also supposed to direct Adams in Ezekiel Moss this year. Adams was recently reported to have shed tears while talking to students about Hoffman. She was naturally affected by the news about the handbag, and her representative promptly released a statement to Page Six on the issue. It said, "Amy Adams is not a spokesperson for Valentino and the suggestion that she would use this moment to participate in a promotion is truly appalling."

The Italian Fashion House also released an apologetic statement, which said, "We sincerely regret releasing a photo to the media... of Amy Adams with a Valentino bag. We were not aware the photograph was taken while she was attending the wake of Philip Seymour Hoffman. It was an innocent mistake and we apologize to Ms. Adams, who was not aware, or a part of, our PR efforts." It was signed by Monica Swanson, vice president of communications for Valentino USA.

The fashion brand took it a step further and posted an apology on Twitter as well. The tweet stated, "We regret releasing a photo of Amy Adams with a Valentino bag. Unaware of the circumstances it was a mistake and we apologize to Ms. Adams."
