Good news, Star Wars fans!

Star Wars Rebels gets a new Jedi and his name is Kanan 'The Cowboy' Jedi. He will be voiced by actor Freddie Prinze Jr. We've seen the villain the Inquisitor and the cranky droid Chopper, now we've got the Jedi Kanan.

In the series, Kanan is a former Jedi Knight who survived the Emperor's order 66 in "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" and has gone into hiding. Kanan no longer uses his lightsaber for fear of being discovered, and ultimately turned away from the Jedi path. But, as the series progresses, he might just find his way back toward the way of the light and of the force.

Executive Producer Dave Filoni calls him "The Cowboy" Jedi, He's a gunslinger that needs to put the gun away and pick up the sword again, and fight for noble causes and selfless causes."

Freddie Prinze Jr. described Kanan as "the perceived head of this organization, the crew of the Ghost and when tells you something, you gotta do it"

Freddie further adds that.

"You suddenly have this cocky Jedi who's willing to shoot you as much as he is willing to get you with his lightsaber. He definitely has seen more than what a young man should see."

"He's been forced to shove a massive part of his life under the bed, so to speak,.

"Is he living a lie? At a certain point, the lie kind of becomes the reality. And to suddenly be forced back into your Jedi ways, it'd be a bit of a challenge for him. And pretty awesome, too, when you can see what a Jedi can actually do."

"Kanan is pretty much the coolest guy in the universe." Freddie says.

Animation Supervisor Keith Kelllogg likes the character due to the fact that "he is a Jedi but not a Jedi in a traditional sense that we have before, he's a little rough around the edges."

The show will be produced by Lucasfilm Animation, featuring many of the key talents that made "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." Set to debut this summer as a film on the Disney Channel, the full series is expected to debut this fall on Disney XD.
