Airtel 4G Plans in India have been released. The catch-22 is that it is only available on Apple phones, specifically the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c, recently outed late last year.
The announcement of the Airtel 4G Plans Apple have been unveiled. The statement releasing the plan was "India's first 4G on mobile" in Bangalore, reports NDTV.
The joint statement between Bharti Airtel and Apple read, "iPhone 5s and 5c customers will be able to use 4G services, as these phones support the 2300MHz TD-LTE band that Airtel is using for 4G services in the city. Other phones that support the 2300MHz TD-LTE band, like Airtel's co-branded phone with Huawei, the Ascend P1 LTE, will also be able to enjoy the 4G services. Unfortunately, there are not many such phones available in the Indian market, hence the claims of the service being 'exclusive' to Apple's phones,"
According to Airtel says 3G subscribers on Airtel telecom services can tap into 4G mobile Internet speeds for the same fee structures as the 3G tariff. This presumes that existing subscribers of 2G and 3G migrate to a 4G SIM.
Director of Consumer Business Bharti Airtel India, Srini Gopalan said in an online report "Airtel has always set the technology trends in India and was the first operator to introduce 4G to the country. The Information Technology capital of India saw the advent of 4G in 2012 and today we are proud to announce the launch of the much awaited Airtel 4G services on mobile in partnership with Apple. We will together give customers in Bengaluru the power to upgrade to cutting edge 4G LTE technology at no additional cost. As a brand we are committed to enriching lives of millions by giving them the best user experience and invite our data savvy customers in the city to enjoy this world class data experience."
In 2012 April, Airtel unveiled India's first 4G network in Kolkata, and now the telecom provider is expanding the service to Bangalore and Pune.
One glitch in the system is that the 4G can be used only for data offerings. In the future, Airtel may come up with more options in its service and plans.
Apple gains from the deal after making a historic landmark deal with China mobile, securing entry into China's smartphone market. The potential is huge in China since most have cell phones. Due to the expensive data plans, most Chinese use the phone to make calls.
In India, Apple gets ahead with a huge advantage with 4G because Bangalore was once the IT hub and is a central bazaar for top of the line jobs that requires online research, and extensive networking. The Airtel-Apple collaboration will be a huge success in Bangalore in the midst fast business deals, and rapid communication. Apple is expected to gain from the deal and see more iPhone 5s and iPh
