Can you imagine a crazy scenario where Newcastle United would have John Cena, Randy Orton or the Big Show on their team? The Hurricane would probably say "What is up with that!?" to the chairman of the board Vince McMahon for doing so.
Rumour has it WWE Chairman Vince McMahon wants to buy Newcastle United. If you're thinking this is some kind of wrestling storyline that involves the whole Newcastle United team squaring-off with WWE roster on Wrestlemania, think again.
Mike Ashley, the current owner of the Premier League club, has long been keen on selling the club he bought in 2007, and now it seems he could have found an unlikely candidate to replace him.
Vince McMahon reportedly wants to extend his portfolio by adding the Newcastle United team under his management. McMahon was linked with a bid to buy the club back in 2011 and now the wrestling tycoon may be looking to rekindle his surprising interest on them.
This is not the first time that WWE owner has been linked to Newcastle United in a possible takeover from Mike Ashley. Most Newcastle forums include a discussion of Ashley's desire to sell the team and he has been the reason for much frustration during their recent skid in the Barclay Premier League and it's hard to see how purchasing a soccer club could expand the McMahon empire.
This would be a good time for Ashley to get out as the current Forbes value of his club is almost $40 million more than what he paid. After selling Yohan Cabaye to PSG, the fans have been after Ashley. He tried to create a fall guy by letting go of chief transfer office Joe Kinnear, but most have seen through the smokescreen. The report states that Ashley is conveniently trying to market his club to several possible owners in the United States. The timing is right, but the report seems off.
McMahon would love to continue to grow his empire as the World Wrestling Entertainment is on the verge of launching its own network and has some business leverage as their UK contract deal with Sky is coming up for negotiation. Sky and the WWE have worked together for 25 years. Many believe the new WWE Network will be worked into the Sky subscription service to expand offerings across England.
Everyone who has read these rumours took to Twitter to share their reaction and opinions to the possible buy-off.
