Lucasfims animation has been very busy: executive producer Steve Filoni wasted no time showing-off his new character in the coming 3D-animated series "Star Wars Rebels," along with two new trailers.
"Star Wars Rebels" introduces Ezra Bridger, a 14-year old con artist voiced by Taylor Gray. One part Luke Skywalker and one part Aladdin, Ezra Bridger serves as the eyes and ears of the show.
Taylor Gray described Ezra Bridger as a "Little thief, but he's doing it all because he needs to survive."
Creative executive Rayne Roberts thinks, "He doesn't really trust anyone, that kind of his motto in life."
According to Filoni, he's "Force-sensitive, who reflexively uses the Force without realizing it"
"He thinks he's got some abilities that are a little strange now and then, but they help him out," he said, hinting that audiences will likely see him having powers associated with the Force.
Luckily, he has Kanan to teach him, but the fact that Kanan has been hiding his powers to avoid detection from the empire so the last thing he needs is to mentor Ezra in learning how to control his new powers. But as the show progresse,s that reluctant aspect of their relationship grows stronger like that of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Sky Walker.
"They need each other," said Filoni. "Ezra will never become a Jedi without Kanan, and Kanan will never reclaim his status and become a Jedi Knight without Ezra."
Filoni said in an interview with TV Guide: "It wasn't this terrible thing that came in and was cruel to everyone all at once. It was slow to build its power base and spread out, and then we get to see the rebel alliance it affects, and the repercussions of that tyranny."
Co-executive Producer Gregg Weisman also said: "As his eyes get opened to what the Empire is capable of, Ezra will find himself pushed from petty crime into a full-fledged rebellion. "His eyes are opened to the fact that there are people who care, who are trying to fight the good fight. And he becomes one of them."
So far, Ezra is the fourth character in the series, which will air on DisneyXD in the fall. Here are two trailers of the show - just to get all of you Star Wars fans out there excited!
