MWC 2014 Day 2 highlights include Following the excitement of the first day, which was mostly flooded with the news of the Samsung Galaxy S5 launch, the second day at MWC 2014 saw less popular but equally fascinating products.

Andrew Williams of trustedreviews.com asks the fundamental question, “Do you need what the Gear 2 offers?” Half the world would agree that most of technology in the world is extraneous. Sometimes, they make us efficient, remembering our appointments, meetings with our boss, and other neat applications that make us more sophisticated in our organizing abilities.

This sounds like what CEO JK Shin of Samsung Electronics was saying about the S5 being a lifestyle product that enhances the way you live on a daily basis. After the S5 was introduced by Shin at the Mobile World Congress 2014, he said consumers are looking for simplicity in their mobile devices.

The Galaxy S5 is more streamlined than its predecessors. Coming back to the Samsung Gear and the question if the functions are required for your lifestyle, most people might say no because the 1.4” screen is going to be too small to do any meaningful work.

In reality, the smartphone is a better display t o work with and you’ll get better results because you don’t have to crimp as much.

Andrew Williams of trustedreviews.com makes a good point when he says, “What I continue to struggle with is the idea that many people will actually want what the Samsung Gear 2 is offering. Do you really want to check your emails, Twitter messages and texts on a wrist-worn device you need to charge almost as often as your phone?”

Williams adds, “The convenience issue isn't just about battery life, either. The more interaction you have to do with something like the Gear 2, the less useful it is – navigating a full interface on a 1.63-inch screen isn't anywhere near as handy as doing so on a phone. And it does seem there's a fair bit of screen-flicking involved in its current incarnation.”

Analysts agree that in order for the smartwatches to go mainstream, they will have to identify more with the average user before everyone evaluates a need for the watch.
