Chris Brown News 2014: The singer was in court on February 28 for a progress hearing in his 2009 assault case on Rihanna after he was sentenced to 90 days in rehabilitation faility last November. According to E! News, the rehab facilities attributed Brown's "mood swings" to PTSD and bipolar disorder.
A letter from the facility read, "Mr. Brown will also require close supervision by his treating physician in order to ensure his bipolar mental health condition remains stable. It is not uncommon for patients with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Bipolar II to use substances to self-medicate their biomedical mood swings and trauma triggers. Mr. Brown became aggressive and acted out physically due to his untreated mental health disorder, severe sleep deprivation, inappropriate self-medicating and untreated PTSD."
"It is evident that [Brown] has responded well to the dual diagnosis treatment," according to the documents as stated by MTV News, Superior Court Judge James R. Brandlin said Representatives from the rehab facility added that he has been "beyond exemplary" in fulfilling his community service requirements.
According to CNN News, Brown seemed disappointed by the decision. It seems that his three months of therapy may have helped him handle the stress in court. He closed his eyes and appeared to meditate for about five minutes while his lawyer, Mark Geragos, met privately with the judge and prosecutor.
The director of Brown's rehab program wrote in a letter to the court, "Mr. Brown is able to use behavioral strategies to manage acting out on impulses. Mr. Brown is teaming relaxation exercises that will reduce consequent impulsive behaviors."
As quoted from CNN News, Brown, 24, told his probation officer that he "appreciates what he has learned in the rehabilitation facility, as it has allowed him to change his life for the better," the officer wrote in his report. He "looks forward to staying out of trouble," the officer added. Report said that Brown reports to a highway cleanup labor crew in Los Angeles three days a week to fulfill the 750 hours of service remaining in his probation requirements. Brown could complete the labor in mid-October and possibly be free from probation requirements by the end of the year.
Browns mother sat beside him during the hearing last Friday.
Los Angeles County Judge James Brandlin will revisit Brown's rehab versus jail status on April 23, a week after the assault trial in Washington.
