New York Knicks News And Rumors: Countless rumors have been swirling around Carmelo Anthony on whether he will remain as a New York Knick next season. The New York Knicks though, will do everything humanly possible just to keep their franchise superstar on their roster.
With several issues surrounding them like team chemistry and players not living up to their potential, it would not be a big surprise if Carmelo walks out and chase his dream of becoming an NBA champion. After all, the Knicks are on the bottom of the Eastern Conference and will most likely miss the playoffs this year.
As a start, the Knicks are negotiating with 11-time NBA champion head coach Phil Jackson to become their new head coach. According to ESPN.com, Phil Jackson, the legendary coach who led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA crowns and the Los Angeles Lakers to five, is "ready to go back to work".
From a player's perspective, this is a very good opportunity to learn from the man who coached the likes of Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neil, and Kobe Bryant and led them to win multiple titles. Analysts say that this may possibly help their chances of luring key free agents to join them in their next year's campaign.
However, Jackson, whose career coaching record is 1,155-485 in 20 seasons, had already turned down an opportunity to become the New York Knicks' next head coach. Still, according to ESPN's Stephen A. Smith and ESPNNewYork.com, the Knicks apparently haven't stopped pursuing the man: now they are reportedly dangling a high-ranking front office in front of Jackson, who starred with the Knicks during his playing days.
He could announce a decision in the coming week, according to the New York Daily News.
Just over a month ago, he told NBA TV "my stock answer has been I have no intention of coaching again." He also remained true to his words last year, declining the offer of Cleveland Cavaliers and Brooklyn Nets, as well as the Toronto Raptors for an unspecified role.
"There are winners and losers in the NBA, and a lot of people are trying to reclaim their position or change their culture or whatever," Jackson told USA Today. "So yeah, there is [opportunity]. I've had conversations. Some of them are feelers, (an) 'are you interested?' type of thing."
Knicks coach Mike Woodson, whose team is still 17 games under .500, said before Friday's win over the Jazz, "I really don't have an opinion on it. ... As I sit here today, I am the coach of the New York Knicks. I am not going to entertain anything about Phil."
