The new Star Wars movie, Star Wars Episode VII, may have their hands full in selecting their lead actors. Five actors are selected to battle for the lead role and Star Wars Episode VII will now start filming in London.
According to Variety, the five actors that will play the lead role of the Jedi apprentice in Star Wars Episode VII are "Downton Abbey's" Ed Speleers, "Attack the Block" star John Boyega, "Battleship" and "Breaking Bad" star Jesse Plemons, theatre actors Mattew James Thomas and Ray Fisher. Although insiders are still on the search for their leading man, these five were on the top of director J.J. Abrams list.
It is still unknown what kind of character the Jedi apprentice would be in the film. The original draft which was made by Michael Arndt was said to focus on Han Solo and Princess Leia's children, however, Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan's revision places the children in a supporting role so they can then "surround the less-familiar actor with more recognizable stars for supporting parts," such as classic Star Wars actors Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford.
Some sources also indicate that the reason for the delay is due to whether execs and creatives want someone of a different ethnicity from the previous Caucasian leads. Abrams stated on numerous occasions that he wanted a diversified cast, which is why actors like David Oyelowo and Michael B. Jordan tested early on.
Star Wars Episode VII will now begin shooting during the late or early third quarter in Pinewood Studios in London. The film is set to be release in Dec. 18, 2015.
