Looks like Shailene Woodley isn't a huge fan of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Not the actors themselves, but their characters Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. While millions of fans got hooked on the on-screen romance of the handsome vampire and the rebellious teenage girl, the star of "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" wasn't thrilled about it.
In an interview with Teen Vogue, Woodley revealed: "Twilight, I'm sorry, is about a very unhealthy, toxic relationship. She falls in love with this guy and the second he leaves her, her life is over and she's going to kill herself!"
I'm sure that got you all thinking, right? The 22-year old actress also said, "What message are we sending to young people? That is not going to help this world evolve." Well she has a point, but that must have really hurt not only Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, but also the writer of the "Twilight" series.
American author Stephenie Meyer gained international recognition for her vampire-themed romance novel. In fact, her four novels have won multiple awards including the British Book Award for "Children's Book of the Year" in 2008 and Kid's Choice Award for Favorite Book in 2009.
Based on those awards, most of the readers (and viewers) of the "Twilight" series are really young. As we all know, kids are really smart these days, and know that this is just a fictional film of undying true love. I'm sure they are more amazed by the vampire and wolves fight scenes, than the love scenes of Edward and Bella.
Shailene Woodley is known for her upfront and often times sarcastic remarks. Also during her interview with Teen Vogue, the "Divergent" star revealed why she didn't ride the wave of Hollywood glory after doing "The Descendants".
She said, "After The Descendants, everybody was like, 'You've got to ride the wave!' And I was like, 'You ride the wave and it eventually crashes on the shore. That doesn't work out! I'm going to just sit and paddleboard."
Woodley explained, "I didn't do a movie for two years because I didn't read anything that was inspiring to me."
If the Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart romance didn't inspire Shailene Woodley, then what do you think will?
