If you want to see the darker side of the popular fairy tale Sleeping Beauty, then make sure to check out the latest Maleficent trailer. There has been a trend in creating live-action fairy tales, but most of the films center on the heroine and hero such as Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, and Snow White and the Huntsman.
But this time, Disney focuses on the villain's tale instead of the princess. Screenwriter Linda Woolverton, who wrote Alice and Wonderland and art director Robert Stromberg, who worked on Alice and Oz seem to be not interested in just retelling the story of Sleeping Beauty.
Based on the new Maleficent trailer, it showed how the dark fairy cursed the young princess Aurora to sleep for a long time. Viewers will get to know more about the evil sorceress and find out the reason why she decided to take revenge on the royal family.
Angelina Jolie stars as the dark fairy and she seems perfect for that role. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress talked about her new role. She admitted, "It is really funny when people say you'd be obvious for a great villain."
The 38-year old actress also said, "The exercise wasn't how can we have fun with a villain." Jolie explained, "It was: What turns people evil and vile and aggressive and cruel? What could have possibly happened to her?" That's something most of us wanted to know because we already know how Sleeping Beauty will be saved, right?
The Salt star's daughter Vivienne Jolie-Pitt will also make her acting debut in Maleficent. She will play the role of the young princess Aurora. In fact, EW featured Jolie's picture as the evil sorceress together with the adorable Brangelina girl.
In the recent Maleficent trailer, people are wondering whatever happened to the dark fairy’s wings. There was even scene wherein Jolie said that her wings were stolen from her. There was also an encounter between Maleficent and Aurora before the princess turned 16, which means that there is a deeper relationship between the evil sorceress and the princess.
