Suits Season 3 Episode 13 Recap: Previously, Harvey Specter and Mike Ross faced a challenging rival in court, the only lawyer who had beaten Harvey (but only in mock trial in law school). Mike had presented this case to Harvey for it was what Donna said to be the best gift he wanted for years.
The case seemed to be easy because Stemple was not prepared during the trial and he might have been caught off guard when he found out that Ross and Specter were the defending counsel. During the deposition of the case, Stemple uttered an inappropriate remark. Unluckily, it was not caught on tape. Specter and Ross reported it to the judge even without actual proof and he believed them since Stemple had just lied about something in front of the same judge. On the day of the trial, Specter questioned the star analyst of the opposing counsel, but it was just used against him and another lawsuit was filed against them.
Playing dirty and manipulating was the game Stemple played. He admitted cheating on the mock trial he had beaten Specter, but it was just another trick. Harvey sought help from Jessica and they both agreed to settle. But Mike had convinced them not to for he had discovered something against Stemple. He was really after that settlement to gain this fancy glue for his client which is apparently a key tool for microchips.
Being caught with his evil plan, Stemple had no choice but to admit his wrongdoing and pay the settlement with Pearson-Specter's client. Winning counsel celebrated, Harvey even took Mike to dinner. Mike was called to Jessica's office and was informed that she was happy about the win. But she got a call from the editor of New York lawyer and they wanted to interview the man responsible. Mike already knew that the case wasn't for him, it was for Harvey. Jessica pointed out that Mike can never be anywhere near the spotlight for it can be an interrogation light pretty fast.
Just when Mike was about to leave Jessica's office, he asked, "this is always how it's gonna be, isn't it?" Jessica replied, "I thought you knew that." Will it ever be alright for Mike to be the genius associate who can never experience the limelight?
