Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have separated. The very private couple announced the news through a statement via Paltrow's Goop website on Tuesday.
The message titled "Conscious Uncoupling" -- which was also sent to Goop subscribers in a newsletter with the label "A note from GP" and a link to the website page -- was short and to-the-point. It said, "It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate. We are, however, and will always be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner. Love, Gwyneth & Chris." The website was completely inundated by people trying to access it, and it has gone down and then up again since the message was posted.
The Academy Award-winning actress and the platinum-selling Coldplay frontman have been married for 10 years. They had a secret wedding that took place at the Santa Barbara courthouse on December 5, 2003. They have two kids together - Apple and Moses.
Paltrow and Martin remain busy with their careers however. Martin will be joining NBC's The Voice. He will take on the role of "key advisor" for the show, and will be acting as a mentor for all the contestants. Paltrow meanwhile, is still a part of the Glee family.
