"God's Gift - 14 Days" may not be the best drama to watch just before you fall asleep. The plot is eerily like a nightmare in which the dreamer chases someone or is chased but never gets any closer to the goal. The dreamer keeps running and somehow never gets anywhere. That's what's happening to Lee Bo Young's character Kim Soo Hyun. Every time Kim Soo Hyun and Jo Seung Wo's character Ki Dong Chan get closer to finding out the identity of her child's future killer, the plot twists, leaving the characters in an even darker and equally desperate place.
But the elements that make for disturbing dreams also ensure seductive drama. And more viewers must be rooting for Lee Bo Young to escape her nightmarish scenario as the drama's ratings surpassed 10 percent this week. According to the Nielsen ratings, it rose 1.8 percent to 10.6 percent, the highest rating since the show began.
"Empress Ki" remained in first place but with lower ratings recorded at 26.0 percent. Ratings may have fallen now that El Temur and his daughter got what they deserved but there's still plenty of political intrigue at the court. The new empress Bayan Hudu, played by Lim Joo Eun, is using underhanded ways to erode Seungnyang's power and the Empress Dowager is helping her. This week's episodes also saw Wang Yoo and Seungnyang join to fight Tangqishi. There was the hint of a future alliance between Seungnyang and Tal Tal and finally clues to the identity of the master of Eagle House. Seungnyang, played by Ha Ji Won, is so busy trying to find El Temur's lost treasure that she ignores the Emperor, played by Ji Chang Wook. This may be just the opportunity for Bayan Hudu to get into his good graces. And Seungnyang also learned that Yeon Bisu is in love with Wang Yoo.
And viewers are going to need a few more plot twists to complicate things as the popular saeguk has been extended by an additional episode.
The melodrama "Full Sun," starring Yoon Kye Sang and Han Ji Hye, has never been able to compete with the star power of "Empress Ki" and "God's Gift - 14 Days." And this week, as the plot played with issues of trust and betrayal, family and individual destiny, the ratings fell lower than ever, dropping from 3 percent to 2.5 percent.
