After the Marvel Cinema Universe enticed the masses with the "Captain America 2" movie trailer, Captain America actor Chris Evans thought it would be perfect timing to announce his retirement from acting.
According to a profile he did with Variety , Evans said he is retiring from acting after he finishes the three movies he is committed to do as the super hero Captain America.
Although acting outside of the Marvel contract might not be in his future, Evans looks forward to doing some behind the scenes work.
"If I'm acting at all, it's going to be under Marvel contract, or I'm going to be directing," he said to the magazine. "I can't see myself pursuing acting strictly outside of what I'm contractually obligated to do."
He continued with confessing how directing has always been a goal. However, the right moment never surfaced.
"I've known for a while I wanted to direct. But (time) never really opens up," said the hunky thespian. "There's another movie to do, there's another acting job. It just got to a point where I was like, you know what - I have to do this."
Along with Evans plan for retirement, the publication also revealed that Marvel had issues with trying to maintain the actor as Captain America. Initially, they wanted him to do nine films. That number was ultimately cut down to six due to Evan's resistance.
Besides Evan's rep and family, co-star Robert Downey Jr. had a lot to do with him staying on board.
"I remember getting on the phone with him and strongly suggesting that he not shrink away from the offer," said Downey, who plays Iron Man. "I said, 'Look man, you might not like the fact that you've played one of these guys before (in "Fantastic Four"), but you know, the thing is this can afford you all sorts of other freedoms. "
Evans will soon be making his directorial debut with "1:30 Train," a $3 million budget movie about a woman who gets robbed while trying to catch the 1:30 train and is left stranded in New York City, where she eventually forms a romantic relationship with a man who helps out throughout the night. Evans is set to make an appearance in the movie too.
