The cast of "The Mindy Project," including Mindy Kaling (Mindy) and Chris Messina (Danny Castellano) were present for Tuesday March 25's PaleyFest panel. Screaming fans were on hand to hear the most recent updates and spoilers about the remaining eight episodes of season 2, as well as getting to watch a screening of the show's April 1 returning episode. In the last episode of "The Mindy Project," Danny Castellano finally kissed Mindy in an airplane. After the screening, the cast was ready to discuss what all the fans wanted to hear about (that kiss). Executive producer Matt Warburton states, that they wanted to put the kiss on a plane (the theme of airplanes seems to be common for another show that will start up again in April - "Mad Men"). However, Kaling wanted to clarify that the kiss was not so much about romance as it was about lust. "Jim and Pam's love was beautiful and pristine," Kaling said. "This was more an expression of passion and lust pent up than it was love and feelings. It was a different kind of thing."
"Moving forward, there are more bumps in the road," Warburton said about the coming episodes. Kaling further clarified: "The fall-out is going to play out. The last eight episodes build up like a roller coaster."
Another hot topic at the PaleyFest panel was Danny Castellano's scintillating dance to Aaliyah's "Try Again" in the "Christmas Sex Trap" episode. Chris Messina said about the dance, "When they first presented [the idea] to me, I was extremely nervous and mad I had told them I dance." (Messina had dance training as a child). "But then I thought it was a really original and fresh thing to come up with."
At the encouragement of cast and audience, an audience member was able to pull up Aaliyah's "Try Again" from her phone, prompting him to re-perform the dance, live. Messina stood up and walked toward center stage to excited cheers, paused for a moment but then did not reenact the scene.
Season 2 of "The Mindy Project" will resume on April 1, 2014. The show will also be having at third season. PaleyFest, named for William S. Paley, founder of CBS, is an annual television festival that has been taking place since 1984.
