"2 Broke Girls" and HBO's popular show "Girls" have competition, and the competition's name is "Broad City." The Comedy Central show starring Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobsen has been causing quite a buzz these days with many a news source stating that the show about twenty something women living in New York as one of the best shows on television right now. That's quite the accolade considering that there are many other shows with the same premise, i.e. "2 Broke Girls" and "Girls"
Ilana might just be cousin Maybe from Arrested Development all grown up. Although, Maybe just maybe may have wisened up a bit. But not a lot.
The show opens with Ilana video-chatting with Abbi, whose life has become boring and routine. Turns out, Ilana is actually have sex with Lincoln while video chatting. "That was hot, that was cool, that was like a threesome in a way," Ilana says as she closes the computer.
Ilana wants them to go to a Lil Wayne concert, which is costly. Considering that Abbi works as a cleaner at cycling gym where she gets treated like shit while she cleans up shit, she doesn't feel that she can scrounge up the money to go. But Ilana has other plans. After talking to Abbi on the phone, she shows up at the cycling gym.
"Alana. Don't black swan me like that dude," Abbi said, when Ilana suddenly appears in the mirror in front of which she was cleaning. Ilana convinces her to tell her boss that she is waiting for the results of an AIDS test and the duo leave to go make money.
Abbi is in love with her neighbor, which most likely will become a plot line.
The two meet up with a foreign friend who gives them pot. Ilana says to him, "When you're ready to become a citizen, my legs are wide open." That's not how green cards are gotten, but okay!
"Ilana, this is realy good pot," Abbi says as she smokes up on the street.
"It's PCP," Ilana deadpans.
Next up, an unfortunate cleaning job involving an extremely disturbed and creepy Fred Armisen in a diaper that could only be the type of thing found on Craigslist. Ilana and Abbi don't get to meet Lil Wayne, but the friends end up on a stoop wearing stolen fur jackets and chugging alcohol. Just another day for these crazy broads.
