Apple iPhone 6 release date is inching closer and closer. The latest reports cite production plans for begger displays to start in May. This would make an Apple iPhone 6 release date likely in the Fall.

So far, the iPhone 6 the next flagship iteration for Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is likely to come in two variants. Both models of the iPhone 6 are expected to be outfitted with larger screens than the current 4" iPhones - the iPhone 5c and the iPhone 5s unveiled at the end of 2013.
With a lower than expected sales of the iPhone 5c geared for the low end Chinese market, Apple Inc. is counting on the new flagship smartphone to make things better at Cupertino.

Emerging reports on Tuesday suggest that Apple's suppliers are ready to begin creating the bigger display screens as of May. These display screens will be completed by Fall, with some reports stressing a release in September 2014.

It is also assumed that the two variants of the iPhone 6 will be offered to consumers at different times frames. The first to be built will include a 4.7-inch screen will go first to the assembly line, , while the 5.5" larger phone might be delayed to the end of the year.

Sources close to the story said Apple’s supply chain, Japan Display Inc (TYO:6740), Sharp Corporation (TYO:6753) and LG Display Co Ltd. (NYSE:LPL) have been assigned tasks for producing the screens for the iPhone 6.

Japan Display facility in Mobara, east of Tokyo will be the first plant where the screens would be built. would be the first supplier to begin production of the iPhone 6 screens at its plant at Mobara, east of Tokyo, in May, and other plants will make up or their lost time by June.

Reuters reported that both screens will be made using 'in-cell touch panel technology'. These will be built into the displays “allowing for thinner construction than with standard touch panel films.”

The 4.7-inch screen is expected to be released first, since people close to the story say Apple had problems with in-cell production technology while consturcting for the larger 5.5-inch screen size. As a result, the first variant of the iPhone 6 will launch ahead of the of the 5.5-inch screened iphone.

The larger of the two screens looks like it will be delayed for several months. In fact, Apple has the option of shifting to a film sensor, instead of in-cell technology, for the 5.5" larger iPhone.

"Rumors have it that the iPhone 6 would sport a considerably thinner form factor than the existing version of the device. The device is also likely to come with an improved 8-megapixel camera, sapphire cover glass, three new sensors and iOS 8,".iDownloadBlog reported

"The bigger iPhone 6 is also expected to drive significant upgrades among existing iPhone users, as well as convert a large number of Android users to iOS."
