Trophy Wife Season 1 Episode 18 “Couples Therapy” Recap: Frost Tips, Therapy Muffins, and Cabana Boys [SPOILERS]
Trophy Wife Kate is talking to Meg about her chili with two different beans, which of course causes Meg to fall with her eyes open. Pete walks in and is grateful that Kate made the chili. "You are the bomb diggity," he says. Meg looks at him funny and Pete realizes that he should really stop using slang that he shouldn't be using. "I know what it is, I've been listening to a different radio station."
Kate's chili tastes like balls, so of course Pete makes a new batch and pretends it is Kate's. Diane, the sleuth that she is, very quickly can tell it is not Kate's recipe as soon as she puts the chili in her mouth. "Mmm.. delicious. Definitely, cumin, molasses, dark chocolate...and LIES!" She says. Pete tells her Kate's chili tasted like "balls" therefore he made a new batch to avoid a confrontation. When Diane tells him he hasn't changed, Pete (who hasn't changed) lies through his teeth and says he and Kate are in couples therapy.
He does however admit to Kate that he lied to Diane about couples therapy; it doesn't really make sense, but go with it. Kate and Pete decide to use "couples therapy" time to go on a date under the ruse of going to couples therapy. Meanwhile, Burt, Warren and Hilary are hanging at home when Meg comes to take a "spa day" aka use their pool and sauna. Warren, who has a huge crush on Meg, will do anything to hang out with her, include be her "cabana boy." Hilary, meanwhile, realizes Meg could be the perfect subject for her project on "extended adolescence." Hence, both of them are hanging around her a little too much. Meg, in her classic way, does not care, and only cares to go lie by the pool and avoid Tevin, the poor man's Kevin.
Jackie swings by to bring the couple "therapy muffins" and gets way too involved in Kate and Pete's emotional lives, as per usual.
Hilary attempts to do the marshmallow test on Meg, who says it sounds boring, until she says Beyonce loves it. Then of course, Meg wants to do it. "So," Hilary starts, putting a marshmallow down. Meg promptly puts it in her mouth. Two more tries later, Hilary realizes it might be fruitless to attempt the experiment on her subject.
Kate and Pete are taking a tennis lesson. Diane, figuring out their therapy ruse, enlists Jackie to bust the duo. They drive up to the tennis court, at which point, Jackie bursts out, "They're playing tennis with their therapist!" She's definitely more the "Pinky" in their "Pinky and the Brain" scenario.
Tevin shows up at the house, to get Meg back. He has frosted tips. 'Nuff said. But Meg goes back to him because her "extended adolescence" doesn't allow for her to make good life decisions.
Pete finally admits to Kate that he re-made the chili because hers was so bad. It hurts, but at least they're being honest with each other now, therapist or not.
After a string of pretty hilarious episodes, Trophy Wife Episode 18 "Couples Therapy" was not the greatest; a few funny scenes and lines, but overall pretty predictable.
