The new design of Twitter has striking similarities with Facebook.
Last April 8, Twitter employee David Bellona wrote on the social media company's blog that the new layout will unfold in the succeeding weeks.
New Twitter sign-ups will already experience the new layout design but existing users will be gradually updated.
In an article by BBC, they gathered reactions from various Twitter users and many of them noticed the resemblances with Facebook.
Tom Barnett said, "Looks a bit much to me. I love the simplicity of Twitter, this is a huge departure,"
The header image and profile thumbnail appear to be very much similar with Facebook's orientation of its cover photo and profile picture.
Another similarity is the left column placement of other Twitter users/contacts' headshots and multimedia preview thumbnails.
Besides these, there will also be Facebook-News-Feed-like changes.
According to the blog entry, the tweets with the highest engagement will appear a little bigger than the other tweets. These will appear as the your best tweets.
The new layout will also allow you to pin tweets so that your followers can know what you are most interested in.
Moreover, filtering tweets will now be also possible when you view other people's Twitter profiles. The options include: tweets, tweets with multimedia (photo/video), or tweets and replies.
Twitter listed down the following personalities with the updated profile design:
- Hollywood celebs @zacefron, @kerrywashington and @channingtatum
- French TV host @nikosaliagas
- Australian Football League @AFL
- First Lady Michelle Obama @flotus
- Music artists @JohnLegend, @weezer, @gilbertogil
- Boxer @FloydMayweather
