While the MOBA genre is still largely dominated by LOL and Dota 2 it seems that the new comers to the arena aka Dawngate, Infinite Crisis and Heroes of the Storm are looking to get a slice of the pie from the two MOBA giants.
While the LOL vs Dota 2 battle has been waging on like LOL winning the revenue battle and Dota 2 winning the bigger tournament viewer number it seems that the battle between two is locked at a stalemate but the two MOBA giants may have to contend with the other MOBA's .
Blizzard's Heroes of the Storm is the biggest threat to the crown of LOL and Dota 2 as with the backing of Blizzard's brand name, it might pull some of the gamers too it but the biggest criticism it garners that the mechanics of the game may be too simplistic and it turns off some of the hardcore gamer crowd.
Turbine's Infinite Crisis biggest charm is that it allows gamers to play as DC Superheroes and villains and that is a novelty in of itself however it's gameplay is largely criticized (whether fairly or unfairly) as too much of a LOL clone.
Electronic Arts has announced that its upcoming MOBA Dawngate has entered open beta.
Dawngate aims to separate itself from the growing pack of MOBAs by allowing you to choose a role that isn't specifically dependent on the character you select. This is all in the way of "celebrating personal play styles," EA says.
As the Infinite Crisis, Heroes of the Storm and Dawgate improves it will be interesting to see how it affects the landscape of the MOBA scene but as of now, the MOBA genre is still in hands of LOL and Dota 2.
