Joss Whedon Responds To 'Agents Of SHIELD' Cancelled Talks After Series Hit Record Low Views As Cobie Smulders 'Maria Hill' Confirmed To Return To The Show

Agents of SHIELD isn't drawing in viewers and that's a problem and Marvel fans are noticing it too leading to "Agents of SHIELD cancelled" talks and rumors to spread. Joss Whedon finally sets the record straight and talks about what would happen if Agents of SHIELD gets cancelled.

The last of episode of the Agents of SHIELD took a turn for the worst and called in the worst performance of the show ever despite it being a tie-in to the box office king, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Screen rant notes that:

"It's possible that the numbers may bounce back for next week's episode, given the ramifications that HYDRA's emergence will have on the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. universe, as well as the word of mouth that will continue to spread after the 'Turn, Turn, Turn' twist ending. But the question that will undoubtedly be on every skeptical viewer's mind has to be how it's possible that a blockbuster powerhouse like The Winter Soldier had apparently zero impact on the Marvel Universe's only TV series (in terms of audience size)?"

"The most obvious conclusion (at least, in out estimation) seems to be that no matter how Marvel may see the future of their comic book universe developing, the connections between TV and film are nowhere near as concrete as fans had hoped. With the tie-in episode receiving not just mediocre viewership, but the lowest in series history, it would be fair to argue that there is next to no connection between TV and film whatsoever. At least, as far as mass audiences are concerned."

Could we see Agents Of SHIELD cancelled? Agents Of SHIELD Season 2 has not yet been given the go-ahead but Joss Whedon has already hinted that episode 22, airing on May 13, will not wrap everything "up in a little bow." Whedon also says that if ABC cancels the show they'll try and get a Kickstarter going for a special movie to wrap things up.

But the Agents of SHIELD is still happening and the showrunners are hoping that Cobie Smulders returning to show will bring in more viewers.

According to TVLine, the actress is set to re-emerge on the show, as it deals with the aftermath of the game-changing events depicted in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Smulders will appear on the show's April 29th episode, just two weeks away from its May 13th season finale, though there's no indication what role her character will play in the series' narrative. However, reports indicate that she will be a big part of the action and will join forces with Agent Coulson.
