Kate Middleton News Update: Duchess Kate had it twice against her husband Prince William during friendly racing in America's Cup sailing boats on Auckland's Waitemata Harbour.

Middleton sailing with Team New Zealand skipper Dean Barker while the Prince was paired with Grant Dalton, the team's manager and a veteran round-the-world racer.

But according to National Post, Kate, who regularly sailed with her family as a child and even reportedly worked as a deckhand had the edge.

"We were sabotaged," William joked after the race, reported by the Daily Mail.

Kate dressed casually in skinny jeans, a nautical striped shirt and blazer, paired with Ray-Bans and cork-soled wedges that she switched for flats during the race.

"We pretty much had her on the wheel the whole time," Raynor Haagh, a crew member aboard the yacht with Kate, told ABC News.

Prince William, meanwhile, told his teammates they "had to make sure we win" but fell short against his wife, who has proven her athletic prowess in other royal engagements, from the volleyball court to the lacrosse field, ABC News added.

Crew member Brad Moss said, "We've got to make sure we win or do whatever it takes," recalling the prince's message to the crew. "Unfortunately, that wasn't the end result today."

"I bet she is. Selfless husband. I wanted a quiet night!" the Prince stated according to the Express when told that his wife looked happy.

Daily Mail reported that after the race the Duke and Duchess had a thrilling, bouncy ride across the harbour in an amphibious vehicle. Both the Duke and Duchess grinned broadly as they took turns at the wheel of the Sealegs, which reached speeds of 40 knots.

The couple were given a miniature Sealegs custom-made for Prince George. Sealegs chief executive David Glen said, "It's an inflatable, amphibious little contraption for youngsters. It is absolutely bespoke. It was finished yesterday - four weeks from conception to completion."

The Duke and Duchess were "astounded," he said. "They cannot wait for it to get to Kensington Palace. But they have to work out where to use it. The Duchess said she regretted he was not here to give it a try now," as quoted from Daily Mail.

Grant Dalton said the request to go sailing came from the Palace. "As far as my understanding goes, they wanted to do it."

'"There are no friends on the water, though. No quarter given. I'm sure that Prince William would not want to be beaten by his wife."

The royal couple is on a three-week tour of New Zealand and Australia.
