Kate Middleton News Update: Prince William has provoked assumption of Kate expecting to have another baby when he told an admirer who'd made baby George a shawl, "You might have to make another one soon."

On the sixth day of their royal tour, the Duke of Cambridge released his big hint that it won't be long before Prince George has a little brother or sister.

His surprising remark came as he and Kate chatted to Geordie Cynthia Read who had made the lace shawl for their son as a gift from the New Zealand Government, Mirror reported.

Mrs Read, 61, was appointed to make the shawl as a gift from the New Zealand government.

"The way William said it was like he was dropping a hint, letting me in on a secret," she said of the Duke's comment.

The telegraph reported that when asked if she thought he meant a sibling for George would soon be on the way, she said: "Maybe. I couldn't possibly comment! Obviously if I'm asked to do another one, I would be honoured, but we'll wait and see."

Made of merino wool, the white fern-patterned shawl was made by Mrs Read in roughly four months.

She said: "Kate told me they were really happy with it and George wore it a lot. She said it was so lovely and soft.

"They have brought it to New Zealand and he is wearing it, but she apologised for not, so far, finding an appropriate event outdoors to wrap him in it."

Margaret Stove, who made a shawl for Prince William when he was a baby, designed the wrap for Prince George.

It can be remembered that in March, the Duke said that he and his wife were not planning another baby quite yet, when he said, "Maybe one day - one's enough at the moment.''

A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess declined to comment.

The royal couple were visiting Cambridge, in the Waipa district of New Zealand's North Island, where 10,000 people, almost half the town's population, had turned out to see them, according to the Mirror.
