X-Men: Apocalypse News: Director Bryan Singer and writer-producer Simon Kinberg just knows how to keep X-Men fans on the edge of their seats as they are already hinting on things to come in X-Men: Apocalypse, the next adventure in Fox's mutant movie franchise.
According to IGN.com, Singer has said that it will be "somewhat" based on the 1990 comic book arc Age of Apocalypse, which imagines an alternate universe. "[The movie] won't necessarily create an alternate universe, but there may be some swapping things that I'm playing with," Singer confessed to EW in a recent interview.
Kinberg added that Apocalypse will be a departure from previous X-Men films. "From a visual standpoint it actually may be a bigger movie than Days of Future Past because there'll be disaster movie imagery, like the title would imply," he said.
Singer continued that Days of Future Past won't lead directly into Apocalypse, but it will lay some groundwork for the next movie. "What [Days of Future Past] does is it sets up possibilities," the director explained. "What we'll discover in Apocalypse is that events in this movie made that happen."
It is already given that Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Beast (Nicholas Hoult) will all be returning for Apocalypse (per the actors' First Class contracts). However, Singer said he's also interested in bringing in even more mutants, including Gambit and Nightcrawler. "I'm excited because I want to start introducing familiar characters at different ages and also explore the '80s."
X-Men: Apocalypse is slated for May 27, 2016.
