Jennifer Lawrence is confirmed to play Cathy Ames in her next project, "East of Eden."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, writer-director Gary Ross is looking to adapt John Steinbeck's 1952 "East of Eden" into two books.

Ross is responsible for making Jennifer Lawrence an international star through "The Hunger Games" franchise.

The film is reportedly in development at Brian Grazer's and Ron Howard's Imagine Entertainment. There isn't a start date yet, but Ross has opened up about some complications in regards to scheduling.

He stated, "It's one of the things that is sort of my plan, that I'm interested in doing. I'm not certain if it's the next movie. Part of that is my schedule. Part of that is Jennifer's schedule as well. But it's definitely something we intend to do."

Ross reportedly was inspired to make "East of Eden" a project when he read the book along with his kids as a summer read.

He then had Justine Ciarrocchi, Jennifer's best friend and producing partner, and the "Catching Fire" star read the book.

Ross also spoke of his decision not to direct sequel to "The Hunger Games."

The writer-director stated his choice was based on the short amount of time that was available to both write and direct the movie. He stated, "It was going to have to be a four-month process on the second movie, and I didn't think there was adequate time to write a script and then prep that movie in what normally takes me the same amount of time to write the script."

Despite Ross' decision, "Catching Fire" did very well during the MTV Video Music Awards.

CBS News reports that the blockbuster film won the biggest award of the night, movie of the year.

On Sunday, Jennifer Lawrence also won the best female performance award while co-star Josh Hutcherson was voted best male performer.

"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" has been giving Jennifer Lawrence's career even more attention.
