Kate Middleton News Update: Duchess Catherine and Prince William together with their son Prince George have touched down in Australia. The British princess donned a dress that gained positive remarks from many but a humorous one form her husband, who noted that she "looks like a banana."

The Duke, 31, stepped off a Royal Australian Air Force jet with his family just after 2:35 p.m. Sydney time to begin their 10-day tour of Australia, the Associated Press reports.

Princess Kate, 32, carried Prince George off the plane before giving him to Prince William. The royal family was greeted by fans and dignitaries, including Prime Minister Tony Abbott, New South Wales Gov. Marie Bashir and Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove. He is Queen Elizabeth's representative in Australia.

Los Angeles Times reported that the royals greeted fans and posed for photos at the Harbour Bridge upon arrival at the Sydney Opera House.

Later, they travelled via police boat to Admiralty House, where they will be hosted by Sir Peter and Lady Cosgrove.

According to Daily Mail, the Duchess famous for her conservative sense of style wore an unusually bright hue for her first day on Australian soil. Giving honour to Australia, the young Princess' £900 dress mirrored the gold of the Australian flag and was created by the London-based Serbian designer, Roksanda Ilincic.

The dress drew appreciation from the waiting crowd but not everybody seems to appreciate the bright color.

"William said I look like a banana," Kate told one well-wisher, Heather Easton, as the couple arrived at Sydney's iconic Royal Opera House. During that visit, she paired her dress with shiny nude heels.

The Australia visit will cap off the royal's three-week spring tour and will include a visit to the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, a stop at the city zoo and a trip to the country's Outback, where the family will see Ayers Rock, the Associated Press said.

Prince William said during a speech at their welcoming reception, "The affection that my grandmother, the queen, has for this nation is infectious. Her Majesty spoke recently of how, since her first visit here 60 years ago, she has been privileged to witness Australia's growing economy and flowering self-confidence. For Catherine, Harry and me, born in the early '80s, we've never known anything else -- Australia and Australians have always been for us a beacon of confidence, creativity in the arts and sporting ability."
