Kate Middleton News Update: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Sydney's Royal Easter show in Australia on Friday. The royal couple is in playful mood as they are treated to sheep-shearing display.

The Duchess of Cambridge has got her own settling of scores for her husband's jeers about her dress sense. Princess Kate could not resist poking fun at him over his rapidly thinning hair when the royal couple visited the prestigious Sydney Royal Easter Show by suggesting he should wear am alpaca toupee.

According to The Telegraph, exhibitor Lyn Crejan, 67, showed the couple a tuft of alpaca wool which was a similar shade of brown to the Duke's hair.

"The Prince was interested in the alpaca and as I showed it to them the Princess said he should put it on his head," Ms Crejan, a farmer from the settlement of Glenn Innes in New South Wales said.

"She said 'you need it more than me' and pointed to his head and he laughed," she added.

In the sheep showground, the couple met Fred, a fine wool merino ram, who is something of a local celebrity.

According to Daily Mail, both gave him a stroke, Kate more gingerly than William, and laughed when Fred bowed to them by bending his front legs.

Jim Murray, Fred's owner from Wellington said, "They fed Fred a piece of apple and were very impressed with his size and stature and how soft his muzzle was." He said the couple were "absolutely lovely" and very interested in the wool industry.

The 14-day Sydney Royal Easter Show, promoted as an event that "brings the country to the city" entices more than 900,000 visitors every year, and has been a fixture in the calendar of farmers, animal lovers, keen gardeners and the general public since it was first held in 1823.

"Royalty have been associated with the show since Queen Victoria gave permission in 1890 for the event to use the prefix royal in its name.

Featured in the show are prize winning livestock from beef cattle and merino sheep to goats and horses and more exotic animals like lizards and alpacas.

More than 10,000 items of produce are on display and there are also stands for those who want to get up close to the exhibits - like chuck washing, pig patting and cow milking," The Telegraph reported.

According to Daily Mail, the royal motorcade made its way around noon through the traffic of show goers and football fans arriving for a rugby league match at Homebush to Bear Cottage, a hospice for terminally ill children in Sydney's northern beaches.

The hospice was modelled on the East Ang lia Hospices of which the Duchess is a patron.
