Marvel Comics has confirmed that X-Men fan favorite Wolverine dies this year, and a new Spider-Man character Silk makes her debut in the pages of the Marvel comics. So who's the one that finally kills the feral X-Man in the end?
First introduced in issue #180 of the Incredible Hulk in November 1974, Wolverine has indeed came a long way and made an incredible impact to the world, from his popularity within the X-Men comics of Marvel universe to the different media such as TV and movies and pop-culture itself. But now Marvel has decided to end Wolverine's run in a new storyline called "Death of Wolverine" written by Charles Soule and drawn by Steve McNiven. The first issue of the comic will premiere on September 2, 2014 and Wolverine's scheduled demise will be on September 24.
Marvel's executive editor Michael Marts commented on the whole Wolverine death story arc.
"For a long time, no matter who Wolverine was battling, he's been the eternal victor. He almost always comes out on top. Now he finally comes up against an adversary that he cannot win against, he cannot fight. What does that mean for this character who's been around for hundred years?"
Charles Soule further explained that the final act of the Wolverine saga "is meant, in part, as retrospective for both character and the audience," as he further stated.
"He's reflecting on his own life as he's reflecting on his own death. We wanted to have the reader do that at the same time. In each issue, we're focusing on a different aspect, or a different quintessential Wolverine."
Marts asserts that Marvel's creative team has made this decision which according him was "from a standpoint of finality, of closure."
"You're gonna be entering into a world without Wolverine. That affects not only his teammates, but also the Marvel Universe at large. We've got a lot of things in the works already."
So how will he die, did he got killed by one of his enemies or some unforeseen event occurred that will put an end to Logan? And will his death be permanent or will it be temporary just like Captain America? We'll have to find out once the issue is release on September.
Meanwhile, Marvel has will debut a new character on Wednesday and her named Silk. According to reports from the Daily News, her origin is similar to that of Peter Parker being bitten by the same radioactive spider that Spidey his amazing powers. Dan Slott pitched the idea of the creation of Silk and stated that.
"The spider lived long enough to bite one more person. When I pitched that idea at one of our creative summits, everyone went, 'Oohhhh.'"
Silk will be a part of the "Original Sin" story arc, and what role will Silk play in Spider-Man's life, will she be an ally to the web-slinger, or a new threat added to his list of enemies?
Marvels senior editor Nick Lowe commented his thoughts on Silk saying that.
"Silk is going to be a major Spider... character over the next couple years. "She got bit by the same spider that Peter Parker did and we're starting to tease her story in every issue of Amazing Spider-Man."
Marvel fans can't wait to see what will happen to Wolverine's remaining days, and Silk's role within the Spider-Man comics.
So what do you think of Marvel's plans on Wolverine and Silk?
