The "Wolverine 3" movie will be Hugh Jackman's last performance as the X-Men character Logan a.k.a. Wolverine, and the plot hints that Wolverine will die fighting against his son, Daken have been rumored. Will his fate be the same as in the comics? We'll just have to find out.
With X-Men: Days of Future Past drawing closer to cinemas on May 23, there are already several talks of a new sequel to Days of Future Past dubbed X-Men: Apocalypse and other X-Men related spin-offs like X-Force, Deadpool and Wolverine 3. Hugh Jackman's role as Wolverine been given a lot of praise since the first X-Men movie in 2000 to the two standalone movies; X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine.
The new "Wolverine 3" movie plot hinted that the adamantium laced mutant will die in the movie, and rumor has it that he dies fighting against his son Daken also known as the Dark Wolverine. Recently Marvel comics had planned a new storyline for Wolverine called "Death of Wolverine" and the story goes that Wolverine may finally die in the end. The storyline was said to launch September 2 and we will see the demise of Wolverine on September 24 this year. Is it coincidence? Maybe, but having Wolverine killed off in the comics and in Wolverine 3 will likely be a good exit strategy for Hugh Jackman, as reports on recasting the character have been implied.
According to the reports of SFX, Hugh Jackman explains that if he does Wolverine, he was rather certain it'll be his last time playing the character.
"I don't know yet. We're talking it through. I still am very ambitious for the character. And tonally I feel like we corrected the ship with the last one. But I feel we can still go further, in a way. If I did another one I'm 99.9% sure it would be the last, so that will inform what it is for me."
There also several suggestions on how to approach the characters development in Wolverine 3 as they hinted to have an Old-Man Logan style storyline.
"Well, of course we're looking at Old Man Logan, because that may be the only option left at this point! [laughs] We are looking at a lot of different storylines. No one has jumped out. You can tell from my answer that we're still working it out. I'm working with Jim Mangold, which is exciting. Jim came on board The Wolverine after Darren [Aronofsky] left, so he inherited it. And of all the things that Jim can do, one of the great things he does is develop scripts. I'm excited to see what we can come up with, but I haven't signed on signed on. I'm genuinely at that point where unless it's better than the last one I'm not going to do it."
As for adding Daken in the Wolverine 3, IGN did an article last year surveying what kind of Wolverine plot would they like and in that article Wolverine versus Daken came up. In the comics, Daken is Wolverine's son from Japanese woman named Itsu, and Daken has some serious daddy issues. Daken has the same powers as his father having claws, healing factor, animal senses, super human strengths and agility. In addition he has pheromone powers which enables him control the behaviour of anyone he that comes in contact with it, and he will know his opponents hesitations and fears that way he likes it. He's a member of many teams such as the Dark Avengers, Dark X-Men, and Brotherhood of Mutants. Will we see a father and son beat down, dragged-out fight between Logan and Daken Wolverine 3?
Having killed off Wolverine in the comics and in the possible third movie is something new and adds a new twist in the development of the character. We've already seen his origins in the first Wolverine movie, his mortally as a man in the second, and now we get to see how he dies in the end.
What will happen to Hugh Jackman afterwards? Well , we just have to find out more and wait for further updates on the X-Men films.
