George Clooney Engaged 2014: Gravity actor, George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin showed off their newly engaged delight along with the bride-to-be's new ring at a private dinner on April 27. Jeweler Jean Dousett estimates the emerald-cut diamond, which is set in platinum, to cost around $750,000.
According to People, the couple joined close friends Cindy Crawford and her husband, Rande Gerber, in Santa Barbara, California five days after Clooney proposed to the fabulous London lawyer, to celebrate Gerber's 52nd birthday as well as their own happy news.
After People confirmed the couple's engagement, Clooney's fiancée, human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, was congratulated by her law firm.
"The barristers and staff of Doughty Street Chambers offer their best wishes and congratulations to Ms. Amal Alamuddin, a member of Chambers, and Mr. George Clooney on their engagement to be married," the firm said in a statement on Monday.
Alamuddin, 36, joined the firm in 2010 and later became a member of its international law team. The chief executive of the firm, Robin Jackson, added his personal congrats as well, People reported.
"She brings a bright light to everything she is involved in. And I am so delighted at her happy news," he said.
Daily Mail reported that Clooney's mother, Nina, was excited over her son's engagement as well.
"You can say I'm extremely happy, Amal's a lovely girl. We weren't at all surprised when they told us they were engaged, and we couldn't be happier for them," she said.
Clooney's representative has yet to confirm the engagement but a source knowledgeable of the situation told People that the couple are just trying to keep things very low-key.
"George and Amal are trying to keep things very low-key but they also aren't really trying to hide this, it doesn't seem. I think it's like they want the people they love to know that this is real, that they plan on being together forever," the source said.
Clooney, 52, and Alamuddin were first photographed stepping out together in London in October. The two have since been spotted go on board on romantic trips including a trip to Tanzania in March, where they were photographed getting cozy during a safari, and they also visited the Seychelles.
A few days later, the couple stepped out together in New York City for dinner at a French restaurant.
Clooney's rep Stan Rosenfield didn't confirm or deny the engagement, simply E! News, "I do not comment on his personal life."
Clooney was married to actress Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993. He told Esquire in December that he wasn't matched to marriage.
