The L.A. Lakers' coaching change might drag out as it bides its time to find Mike D'Antoni's replacement. The team, however, reportedly plans on contacting Bulls defensive guru Tim Thibodeau which also jibes with Kobe Bryant's wish to be his next coach.
The L.A. Times' Mike Breshanan reported that the L.A. Lakers' coaching change is all about the "slow-speed chase."
He wrote that the team is "in no hurry to fill the coaching vacancy created Wednesday by Mike D'Antoni's resignation and are planning a long search with many candidates."
However, rumors swirling around the L.A. Lakers coaching change have led to the door of the Bulls as ESPN reported that one of NBA's most expensive teams is planning to interview Tom Thibodeau.
While CBS Sports pointed out that Tim Thibodeau's contract will run through the 2016-2017 season, that doesn't mean the defensive guru couldn't bolt out given the right circumstances, citing the case of L.A. Clippers coach Doc Rivers.
The report said that Doc Rivers still had $21 million and three years in his contract when he left the Boston Celtics last summer.
There's also Tom Thibodeau's relationship with the Bulls management to be factored into the equation, and the fact that the L.A. Lakers coaching change would consider the Bulls coach prove the rumors that things are not going so well in Chicago.
"Thibodeau has ties to Lakers star Kobe Bryant, working him out as a youth in Philadelphia when Thibodeau worked as a 76ers assistant coach. But the Lakers are in a rebuilding mode," Chicago Tribune reported.
Finally, Kobe Bryant loves Tom Thibodeau particularly his defensive mindset, ethics, and dedication to the game. Yahoo Sports columnist Adrian Wojnarowski wrote.
"Bryant will wish for Tom Thibodeau to free himself from Chicago," the columnist wrote, but quickly added that the "Black Mamba" "loves Jeff Van Gundy, and shares management's affinity for Euro legend Ettore Messina," as well.
