Floyd Mayweather Jr next fight will definitely be a blockbuster as the 37-year old champion from USA remains undefeated after beating Marcos Maidana in a majority decision last Sunday. The sold-out crowd of 16,268 to watch the Mayweather fight was obviously not happy with the close decision as they booed the announcement and seemingly agrees with Maidana that Floyd Mayweather Jr next fight should be a rematch between the two, according to USA Today The scorecards show that Judge Michael Pernick gave it 114-114, a draw. Burt Clements had it 117-111 and Dave Moretti scored it 116-112 for Mayweather.
In the post-fight press conference, Floyd Mayweather praised his Argentine opponent for being "a great fighter and very tough competitor."Floyd then added a wisecrack: "Next time, just don't hit me (below the belt) so much." Maidana then hit back: "Next time let me use my gloves," a reference the controversial choice of gloves the boxer wanted to wear. When Maidana demanded to be part of Floyd Mayweather Jr next fight, the undefeated welterweight then snapped back: "we can take it back down there right now if you want. Put the ring back up. ... It's not a problem. If he feels he won, we can do it again in September."
According to a deal with Showtime, Floyd will have to go back to the ring this September. In talking about his technique in stopping Maidana, Mayweather Jr told Washington Post that "I always make the adjustments. That's the difference between me and every other fighter." Floyd explained that he gave the fans what they wanted to see: "Normally, I box and move. Tonight, I gave fans an exciting fight."
Maidana was not convinced and called out through his translator that the fight was weighed unfavorably to his opponent's favor. "I feel I was robbed," he claimed
Though a rematch would be interesting, boxing fans all around the world are decided with the dream match that they want to see: Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao 2014 fight.
And who can argue with that if Muhammad Ali, dubbed The Greatest, also expressed his excitement over that match.
Using the hashtag #AliTweet, Ali posted: "Congratulations @FloydMayweather. Maybe after you rest up we can see you rumble with @MannyPacquiao! #AliTweet".
Would a shout-out from the greatest boxer of all time enough to make the Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao 2014 fight a reality?
