According to CompuBox, Marcos Maidana was able to land an incredible 221 punches in their 12-round encounter last May 3rd for a title unification bout, held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
During the Floyd Mayweather versus Marcos Maidana fight, "El Chino" was able to display a well-crafted game plan during the first half as he took "Money May" to deep waters through sheer aggression and strength.
The thousands in attendance at the arena were almost in disbelief, but were cheering for the Argentine at the same time, as it has been years since they saw Floyd Mayweather in a tough position and battling for his survival inside the boxing ring.
Marcos Maidana's strategy and efforts did pay off, as he did fairly well in other aspects. He was also able to land 185/540 (34%) of his power shots. Apart form that, he was also able to dictate the pace of the fight at first, making Floyd Mayweather pay for keeping the match by the ropes.
Unfortunately, "El Chino" was not able to keep it up in the second half, which Floyd Mayweather took advantage of. "Money May" was able to walk away with a razor-thin majority decision victory.
The recent Floyd Mayweather versus Marcos Maidana fight saw "Money May" continue to hold an unblemished record of 46-0. However, it has left fans and "El Chino" himself dissatisfied with the outcome.
This has opened the possibility for an immediate rematch, which is temporarily set four months from now in September. Floyd Mayweather, who has already been in the boxing game for almost two decades, gave his nod on the idea.
"I don't duck or dodge anyone," said the 37-year old Mayweather during the post-fight press conference. "If Maidana feels he won, in September, he can get it again. Did Maidana win some rounds? Absolutely. I'm not going to cry and complain."
