Former Doctor Who actor Matt Smith has landed a role in the upcoming Terminator reboot entitled "Terminator: Genesis'."

Having said goodbye to his role as "The Doctor" after a massive four-year stint, Matt Smith seems to further his Hollywood acting career by also starring in Ryan Gosling's Lost River.

Meanwhile, details to the character that Matt Smith will play in the new Terminator: Genesis is still being kept in secret, although it is said to be a "major" role that will not only have him star in the first film, but also in the second and third of the much awaited Terminator saga.

Matt Smith will be joined by Emilia Clarke and Jai Courtney who will play Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese respectively. Terminator superstar, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is also rumoured to join the cast and is said to play an aging Terminator.

Doctor Who fans who fell in love with Smith have been waiting where he would end up after leaving Doctor Who. Hopefully, after landing this major role of a popular movie franchise, his Hollywood acting career will take off much like his fellow Doctor Who-actress, Karen Gillan (who stars in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and the horror film Oculus).

The Terminator franchise has seen its ups and downs even though being a commercial hit. The two films ‘Terminator: Rise of The Machines' and the Arnold-less ‘Terminator Salvation' both failed to out-perform ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day' commercially, and have been a disappointment in furthering the Terminator folklore.

The Terminator reboot will hopefully give the film series a much needed boost, having a TV-geek heavy cast and hopefully the Arnold Schwarzenegger character, the Terminator, would be a less campy and more dark with its approach, as evidenced with Schwarzenegger's performance in his recent film Sabotage.

With filming entering the early stages, fans remain hopeful to the way the Terminator saga will turnout, hopefully relying less on the aging Arnold Schwarzenegger to reek in ticket seats but have a more substantial storyline.
