Driveclub PS4 Plus Edition update: it's scheduled for release on October 7, via the PlayStation Store and on Blu-ray. Gamers with PlayStation Plus membership enjoy freebies and access to the Driveclub community.
Jamie Brayshaw of Evolution Studios posted on the PlayStation blog: "DRIVECLUB is inherently next gen. It's about accessibility for all and building a community of gamers who love online play." The online upgrade should satisfy fans with broader gameplay.
Being part of the Driveclub community allows players access to all the game modes, as well as create, post, and customize challenges. Online races also up the ante in difficulty and competition.
What's in the Driveclub PS4 Plus Edition update? Evolution Studios offer players a new location (India) to run through, available in all game modes. Eleven tracks and ten cars are also offered to active subscribers.
There appears to be some confusion concerning the terms of subscription, though. Users already subscribed to the PlayStation Plus Edition are given the option of the "full Driveclub experience" for a one-time upgrade of $49.99; The PlayStation Store downloadable (or the Blu-ray) pack is practically a starter kit.
The full Driveclub experience comes with access to five racing locations in 55 tracks, 50 cars and tour events. The catch: players lose access to the game and the upgrade if their subscription expires.
A post in dualshockers.com vents out fan frustration regarding the mix-up. Driveclub is but one of many free titles available at PlayStation Plus by October, although the final roster of games are still under wraps.
Game Director Paul Rustchynsky stepped in and is currently sorting out a clarification, reassuring fans who have started a wave of complaints at Reddit, Twitter, and NeoGaf (there's a viral petition ongoing in the latter site).
The Driveclub PS4 Plus Edition update is either a marketing miscommunication or a serious misstep; the developers are resolving the issue and will keep the gaming community notified within the week.
