The Call of Duty franchise isn't the only one getting a new game this year as if the reports are true, then Battlefield 5 is happening and you can expect the Battlefield 5 release date to be set this year!

After EA laid off staff at Ghost Games, the staff were reported to have been offered compensation or the opportunity to join Visceral to work on Battlefield 5, which is being released in 2014, sources told Polygon.

Battlefield 5 is allegedly codenamed Havana and The Battlefield 5 release date has been set by EA in 2014.

Battlefield 5 will allegedly have a police theme, making it something of a departure from the military fare we've come to expect from Battlefield. It is not clear if the codename 'Havana' has any relation to the game's setting.

According to the report of Cyberland PC, Battlefield 5 will boast a significant number of players per map as the PC version of the game will have as much as 100 players per map! The map sizes would be increased as well, about 2x the size of the biggest map in Battlefield 4 to accommodate the large number of players. There would be new vehicles and weapons as well.

The bad news is, Battlefield 5 may have some graphical downgrades on the PS4 and Xbox One versions so that they could run at an acceptable frame rate and resolution. While the PC won't get graphical downgrades, Cyberland speculates that PC gamers would need a beastly PC to play this game at high settings with acceptable framerates.

EA has confirmed that they have "entered a consultation period for some positions in our Ghost Games U.K. studio", but did not offer any comment on the Battlefield 5 rumours.

Expect a Battlefield 5 reveal and official release date announcement at E3 2014.
