The latest in Witcher 3, PS4 vs Xbox One: the game is still being optimized for both consoles (and for the PC), but developers are talking about the differences between the platforms.
Taking sides on the console wars is a delicate issue, and a recent interview with Marcin Iwinski skirted this by evaluating things from a gamer's perspective. So, will the Witcher 3 for the PS4 turn come out as the superior version to the Xbox One? It reportedly will.
The comparisons are guesstimates at the moment, while the console versions are being finalized. Developer CD Projekt Red isn't pulling any punches, though. It won't hold back on any console if it can deliver a better version of the game.
The PlayStation and Microsoft consoles have different specs, which makes comparisons challenging. The latter is still respectful of CD Projekt Red's intention to squeeze the juice of both platforms.
One of the main concerns involves the game's resolution; developers have fewer excuses not to offer 1080p on next-gen games, given this has been achieved in the PS3. The developer is still considering if the difference is worth the trouble, for gamers with large screens and for those who play in close proximity to their LCDs.
Projekt Red is definitely maximizing the potential of development, as is expected when they announced the release date postponed until February 2015. The resolution options won't make much difference, at least for the moment. Gamers of one platform will potentially have bragging rights to better resolution specs than others, and that's about it.
Iwinski added: "It's more of a PR differentiation, which is very important for Sony right now - and they are using it, obviously - than something that is really meaningful to gamers."
The developers won't use one console as the benchmark of quality for the other, which means there might be a better platform in the Witcher 3 PS4 vs Xbox One scuffle (eurogamer.net).
