It's a dawn of a new era for video games, as the Virtuix Omni shows off what it can do in termns of game capabilities, and enjoyment in this latest Counter-Strike Global Offensive gameplay demo using the Viruix Omni! Will this be a whole new level for experiencing video games?
The Virtuix Omni is an omnidirectional treadmill video game peripheral used for virtual reality gaming and is currently being developed by Virtuix. The Virtuix Omni works as a game controller to let gamers walk within game environments. The Omni has a "bowl-shaped, low-friction surface" and works with special shoes. It is designed to be used with a head-mounted virtual reality display, such as the Oculus Rift.
The platform requires special shoes that reduce friction when walking. The player is fully enclosed within a ring that works with a safety harness to absorb the player's weight.
The video demo earlier, gave us a glimpse of what the Virtuix Omni can do in terms of actual gameplay and so far the player is doing pretty well against many opponents in Counter-Strike Global Offensive.
The Virtuix Omni is currently available for pre-order but like Oculus dev kits, it's not cheap. It cost $500 plus shipping and the release of the Omni will be on September 2014
